Students Social Club Creative Guitar School

Students Social Club Creative Guitar School

‘The desire to give our best to others ultimately brings the best out of us’

Would you join us for some fun?

We are all different, all unique. We have one guitar, or a dozen guitars. You like big sounds or small sounds…a soft acoustic breeze or a storm full of electric sounds. We can play one chord or big harmonies. Yet we all share the same passion, the same love for music. We go to the same school, but we miss each other!!

No more of this! We are now part of a social club, created by us for us. A club embracing our differences, loving our uniqueness, sharing our passion…and igniting our talent!

Playing together, jamming together, creating together, giggling together…encouraging each other.

We now exist on:

And somewhere in Victoria, where the wind blows nothing short of fine tunes!

WARNING: Any use of the word ‘we’ in this document actually refers to and includes You!

Students Social Club Creative Guitar School

Why be part of this?

Wrong question! ‘Why not?’ is the right question. But if you insist, the answer is because we will;

  • have access to each other
  • have stronger purpose in our guitar learning, and above all
  • because it’s fun!

How does it work?

Well, pretty simple. Join the facebook page, subscribe to the youtube channel and follow the instagram account!

From there, we all get to participate, comment, ask questions and share the fun.

Students Social Club Creative Guitar School

What on earth will we be up to?

  • Team up with each other to jam on our favourite songs
  • Share videos of our latest team projects on social media (something to be proud of!)
  • Ask each other questions and bounce ideas (well hey, we’ve got each others’ back!)

Who is this really for?

Every student of the Creative Guitar School…Really, no kidding!

We are all coming together to support each other and make friends both virtually and for real!

Oh…Did we mention that this was going to be fun?!

Single note guitar solo

How to be creative in your single note guitar solo

In a guitar solo, we may outline a chordal progression, or reharmonisation of such.  One way of approaching a solo is to create a solid learning method focused on the aural understanding of the harmonic context.

I love to get acquainted, with any given tune or harmonic progression, by creating melodic lines that are a diatonic step away between them. These lines define the harmonic intention of my solo.

I also love to sing the bass lines and at the same time play these melodic lines.  After a few  practice sessions, I reach a point where I have a thorough understanding of the harmonic content. I am then able to modify, define, anticipate, delay or reharmonise such based upon the intention I wish to portray in my solo.

At the Melbourne Creative Guitar School I cater for all levels of learning. I believe music should help our thoughts flow. This ease of emotions will produce great personal satisfaction.

Creativity Guitar Well Being

 Creativity Guitar Well Being

Where we perform music in a manner that we flow, we tend to feel great about ourselves. At my Melbourne and Sydney Guitar school,  students learn to express their emotions through the guitar. We  strive for Creativity Guitar Well Being.

The guitar is the medium for our well being. In order to achieve a beneficial flow of expression we will need to play the guitarwith joy and overcome the natural frustration we all encounter, when we enter a new world of knowledge.

Students need to learn to be logical and emotional at the same time. You will only learn to play the guitar if you can feel, hear and reproduce the rhythmic and melodic values of the composition.

Please let me help you learn to play the guitar with joy, and contribute further well being to your marvellous life  in which you are immersed .

Melbourne Sydney Creative Guitar Lessons

Melbourne Sydney Creative Guitar Lessons

I am pleased to announce my new original flamenco jazz guitar release: Triste.

Melbourne Sydney Creative Guitar Lessons

It is an instrumental guitar composition that reflects on sadness.  The objective of all music is expression. My objective as a musician is to express: to deliver the expression in an understandable manner to the audience, so I may have the joy of a smile.

All students at my creative guitar school are immersed in music with this objective in mind: self expression.  Our daily lives may be rich and full of joy, but all our imperfections are thoroughly hidden. These imperfection are our real beauty. We should  bring them out in our music. They will be  rejoiced by us and the listener.

Guitar training and learning can be a very rewarding experience but it requires hard work. All courses  related to Melbourne Sydney Creative Guitar Lessons are designed to help the student find self expression, and all these guitar courses require constant dedication. Your reward for dedication will definitely be that of joy .

Please take a peak at my new guitar track .

Nylon strings more lyrical

As a guitar student, you may choose to play electric, steel string or nylon string. In this recording I choose the nylon string  guitar because of the character of the instrument.  A nylon string guitar sounds great if played on its own. Electric guitars sound great when played in an ensemble.

I tend to choose the electric guitar when I wish my melodies to sing more, as the electric guitar has great sustain ( the notes last longer).  The Spanish, or nylon string guitar, produces notes that last less and there fore we have to play more times the melody note, to have it come out in a lyrical manner.  I would recommend to choose the guitar you feel best playing with.

Students at my creative guitar school learn to play the guitar. The style which you choose, is a latter consequence.

Methods of learning.

I believe the objective of any learning method, is that to allow you, as a  student,  to feel good about your playing.

What do you love about music?

Personally, I  love how it makes me feel, how it awakens those feelings that give meaning to life.  I love the intensity it can provoke, the flow of emotion and rhythm.  Whenever I play the guitar, I want to evoke this constant rhythm and flow of varied emotion.

Melbourne Sydney Creative Guitar School 2017

Would you like to join me on this journey?

Feeling good is based upon playing music in relation to a rhythm; a carrier wave for our portrait of melodic and harmonic emotion.  Music learning should focus on these goals at all stages.

Do you believe an endless repetition of a written musical piece, that tells us excatly what to do, will make us feel this way?

Do you think a composer, that breathes freedom in his thoughts as the only way to create, will play his composition in the same manner, every time he plays it ?

Cycle of fourths in your learning

The cycle of fourths, or fifths, divides all temperate tuned musical notes, in constant proportions of intervals. This is the cycle of fourths or fifths. The notes align in a manner,  that may allow us to classify a relationship of ionian scales.

Melbourne Sydney Creative Guitar School

I would like to ask you to fill in the number of sharps or flats. considering that the note you choose  is the tonal centre of an Ionian mode scale.

Can you identify a pattern in increments of sharps and flats?

Harmonic movement

I believe that the classification of what music is, in the written language, is subjective and relative to what the musician has played, and where he lives. Furthermore in our Western Society, we may feel that a cadence of chords,  where chords are ordered in fourths, creates forward movement as opposed to a chord progression in cycle of fifths.

Knowledge and music

All my students, at my Melbourne Sydney Creative Guitar School, will always learn to create music based upon the feeling they wish to portray.  They use music theory as a method of understanding the bigger picture.

Student reactions to a minor chord with a major seventh

My students have asked me to share this photo with you.  It shows their true dismay and courage upon learning the existence, of a Minor Major 7th chord.

In this picture, see three great students displaying eagerness to learn. Good on you all !Melbourne Sydney Guitar courses

How to be creative in chord playing

One of our functions as guitarists, is to define harmony and rhythm. We can play chords as a simultaneous block of notes, or by creating melodic lines that define their harmonic tension. These melodic lines can be created in different registers: in the bass or in the lead. You may also substitute the original chords with others of similar, or opposite harmonic tension.

At my Melbourne and Sydney Creative Guitar school, students learn how harmony works, and how to apply this knowledge to their playing. The objective of this learning, is to never run out of ideas to make your music always sound right.

Ramirez Guitars 1962

Ramirez Guitars 1962

As mentioned in previous posts, this month of September I am recording my new album in the Spanish pyrenees and Barcelona. These mountains, their people and culture have been very inspiring for all my guitar compositions. I am also very pleased to be recording with my Flamenco Guitar, Ramirez Guitars1962. A hand made guitar from the Ramirez family.

Ramirez built these 1962 guitars to work with low tension nylon strings. Gut strings replaced nylon strings  in that era.

ramirez guitars 1962

 Equal temperament tuning.

What I find so curious about this guitar is the way it tunes. Guitars do not follow natural tuning. They are modified to be able to create equal temperament tuning. Contemporary luthiers construct guitars with mathematical machine precision. Even though they do not sound so well, they sometimes tune better. The same note in different octaves is proportional in it´s wave length

However, in older guitars, the luthier would fine tune the fret layout by ear. The luthier would lay down the frets in a manner where octaves were in tune in the same position of the neck. A chord in a high position would be in tune in relation to all its notes, but not to other chords in a lower register.

The resulting sound is spectacular and extremely natural.  The Ramirez guitars built in 1962 were amongst the most desired of the era. They were sought after by flamenco and classical guitarists as: Paco de Lucia, Manolo Sanlucar, Narciso Yepes, amongst others.

Bass lines

Guitar level requirements

At the Melbourne Creative Guitar school, students specialize in contemporary styles of music, that allow their inner voice to flow freely. I believe that it feels good to be able to reinterpret a composition in a different manner, each time we perform it. The interpretation will be a consequence of what was heard before, and of how we choose to feel, when each new note is played.

Music should makes us feel alive and joyful. There fore, if we can create our own pathways of expression, then we will have greater enjoyment In our lives.

Developing Bass lines

One of my favourite bass players is Ron Carter. Bass players create melodic lines that define chords. The more lyrical the bass line is, the richer the overall arrangement of the composition will be. The better it will feel.

Guitarists also play bass lines and therefore we can harmonize them. I would recommend all students to transcribe a bass line of Ron Carter and to harmonize such.  I would suggest the first twelve bars of Billies Bounce, that he performs with George Benson on the album: Blue Benson.

Once you have transcribed,  harmonise the strong beats  with standard blues chords and inversions. Harmonize all passing tones, or those you would like to create the feel of passing, with secondary dominants or substitute chords. Once you have all this down and are able to play it, you will never want to play a blues again in any other manner.
